Introduction to Drawings

Surprisingly, this assignment was pretty  interesting. The objective and requirements were easy to understand and straightforward, however,  this assignment also requires detailed drawings, which is also my weakness. Through this assignment, I have learnt a lot and enhanced my drawing skills.

Here's the showcase of my work :)

What am I supposed to do ?

Our requirements for the project :

- produce 6 pieces of drawings

- choose one theme from each category (Category A and B)

- Category A (3 drawings) : Simple Line drawing, Simple Perspective Drawing, Rendering Drawing

- Category B (3  drawings) : Top View, Elevation View, Section View)

- Dateline : Week 4 ( Friday 17/9 )

Progress

Category A Drawings

I wanted to pick something unique- decorative items. Therefore, I chose my Harry Potter FunkoPop. As a Harry Potter fan, I really enjoyed the process of drawing it out for my assignment. Also, this is a free hand drawing and not to scale, which relieves my stress. ( I am terrible at technical drawings)

I  started off with my basic line drawing, also starting to slowly explore drawing tools : circle template, french curves or even compass at the same time too. As I wasn't sure at the beginning of what kind of tools or materials should I be using even though there was already a list given , I just decided to buy all kinds of technical pens and possible tools tools that I will find useful in the future.

Super large french curves (orange ones on the left) , technical pens (0.03 to 1.2), scale rulers, french curves, measuring tape and I even got a toolbox for these.

Then, I continued with some simple renderings to give some perspective to my drawings. I am not familiar with pencil renderings or pencil art. So, I googled and searched for tutorials online for pencil renderings.

This is one of the videos where  I learnt my rendering techniques. It came in handy for my rendering drawing, especially.

This is my final outcome. As an amateur of pencil rendering drawings, I can say that I am satisfied with my final outcome, in fact, being surprised that I can pull this off.

Category B Drawings

Technical drawings, like I mentioned- not my strongest suit. I now have many tools at home, but I have no idea how to use any of them. I had to google and searched for tutorials again in order for me to complete this assignment. I chose my microphone for this part. It is a challenge I put for myself because the patterns on the microphone surface can be quite challenging for someone who is not detailed at all.

As I could not visualized the internal / section view of my microphone, I googled and search for similar microphones types as mine. I did some mix and match with a few microphones sections and finally came out with this drawing.

Reflection

I have learnt to pay attention to details and using the right tools to present my drawings accurately. I am pretty certain that in the future, if I were to pursue architecture in the future, I will need to acquire this knowledge in order for me to draw floor plans and my overall outlook of my building according to scale accurately.

First off, I list out all of the tasks that I need to complete by the end of submission according to the brief. After listing it out, I can plan out my timings for each drawing so I will be able to show my progress to Mr Akmal and also not rush things at the very last minute.

Through this assignment, I have put in loads of dedication and patience into my drawings. Though there are times where I get frustrated or annoyed of how I could not draw lines properly in constant line weight especially when I am drawing the details. Grateful for the support my family and Mr Akmal's has given me, I got through this assignment and needless to say, I have learnt so much about technical  drawings, even though I am just at the beginning of it.
