Inside Out - Head Space Cube

First off, we are each assigned to one inside our characters. ( Joy, Sadness, Fear or Anger). I am glad that I got Sadness as my character client. I had to do in depth research on her and conclude her needs and wants. From there, I have to create a space for Sadness based on my understandings.

Here's the showcase of my work :)

What am I supposed to do ?

Our requirements for the project :

- analysis on assigned character

- 1 final model

- 1 A1 size board

- 1 video presentation

- Dateline : Week 15 ( Monday 29/11 )

Progress

I got assigned to Sadness as my 'client'. For further exploration and research on Sadness, I re-watched my childhood movie, Inside Out and then did my research on various websites and analytical videos on Sadness character.

Initially, I sketched out my proposed spaces for Sadness and the ambience I want to create for her. I concluded that the ambience of each space for Sadness would be Safe, Fun and Strong.

I sketched out my initial envision of each spaces and also the possible materials to use for each space. This space for Sadness is mainly to fulfill her dreams : embrace sadness and also have fun.

This is how I envisioned Sadness in each of my spaces that I created for her.

This is my rendered drawings of my model. It consists of 2 layers. The bottom layer is mainly for sadness to embrace her sadness, meanwhile at the top she can have fun with the slides and gaze upon the stars at night. The bottom part is surrounded by spiky objects which is designed for protection, large brown sticks for support and aesthetic purposes, 'embrace it' corner for her to express herself. For the top, its all fun and games.

Later on, I photoshopped all of my models and compose all onto my board. It was definitely exhausting and it took hours for me to edit them. However, I am pretty satisfied with the results.

Then, I proceeded with my video shooting and editing of my model presentation. I had loads of fun with it and here's a short behind the scene video with me where I got speechless and do weird things in between my videos or in the midst of my videos.

Reflection

Although this may seem irrelevant to anything right now, however, from this assignment, I have learnt to understand my 'client's' needs and wants based on her interest. I personally fins this very useful especially if I am pursuing architecture or any designing course in the future.

As compared to the previous assignments, we have to create a much larger model this time ( 30cm x 30cm x 25cm ). Not only the space arrangement and design, I have to also consider the stability and functionality of my design. I had so many wild ideas but none of them worked as it did not make any sense in terms of stability and functionality. Therefore, through filtering and corrections, I managed to create my desired design while making it SUPER stable.

This is my ITSD final assignment, as well as other modules'. Well, since so many final assignments clashed together, I had to plan my time properly so that I could hand in in time. I first off completed ITD, then DB a few days before their submission date. Leaving me with few extra days for ITSD so I can focus more on this .
