Design Principles
This assignment is a group project - a team of 4. I was teamed up with a bunch of very cooperative members - Brandon, She-Qi and Nathaniel. We are required to extract shapes from our first assignment, then create 9 models as a team - 2 individual models each ( chosen from the design principles given in the brief ), 1 individual hybrid model and 1 group final hybrid model ( combination of all our works ).
Here's the showcase of our work :)

What am I supposed to do ?
Our requirements for the project :
- extract shapes from assignment 1
- each member pick 2 design principles given from the brief
- create 2 models based on the principles we selected
- combine the 2 models individually to create a hybrid individual model
- lastly, combine 4 of our hybrid individual models into 1 hybrid group model
- total 9 models as a group

Progress
Based on each of our first assignment, we each have to extract a shape from our chosen picture from assignment 1. After extracting the shapes, we play around with the shapes and create different forms. We then decided that each of the members choose to create the 2 models based on the design principles given in the brief. Later on, we used the forms that we created previously to build our model.
I chose Emphasis and Movement. At first, I had to sketch out my initial ideas and test it out as my mock-up models.
I tested out on different shapes and forms and stability. In the end, I chose the pattern that most represent my model. For instance, for movement, I chose mockup 3, and decided to further develop it.
Once completed the first 2 models (emphasis and movement ), we then proceed to each combine both of our models into 1 hybrid model. As you can see, the pentagon and the triangles are from the EMPHASIS model, the pyramids are from the MOVEMENT model. In addition, the concept of pyramids and the triangles being trapped in the pentagon, was drawn from the EMPHASIS model.
Before we proceeded with our individual hybrid models actually, we as a team, came out with a concept - INVERTED pyramid, and then decided on how each of a models should be looking like. For instance, the direction of the model, the height of the model, the colour of the model, etc.
Later on, She-Qi and I photoshopped all of our models and combined all of them. It was definitely exhausting and it took hours for me to edit them. However, I am pretty satisfied with the results, especially if we are all not doing this model together physically.
This is the process of how I edit the pictures. I figured out that the app- Magic Eraser on my phone which was left for years has finally come in handy.
Reflection
Certainly, as a group, we have to communicate with each other. We are very good friends, so we do not have much of a problem communicating with each other. However, in this case, we learn to put each of our strengths into good use. For instance, Brandon with his awesome digital drawing skills, She-Qi with her strong analyzing skills and Nathaniel with his good visualization skills, etc.
Working with each other was not a problem, however , we did face a problem, which is not being able to visualize or convey the message properly to one another, Therefore, we tried a variety of platforms or ways to illustrate our ideas properly to our team mates. Initially, we shared screen on Discord, and Brandon illustrates out our idea. Later on, I introduced Google Jamboard ( a platform I used to teach my math students ), so that each one of us can illustrate out our ideas however we want.
For this group assignment, we are exposed to so many new platforms and apps. For instance, photoshopping apps, platforms where we can share out ideas, etc. Although it may seem as if it has not much of an effect to this assignment, but trust me, the new apps or platforms we discovered had made of discussions go a lot smoother and easier, especially on expressing and conveying one's opinions or ideas.
