Tourist Guide Pamphlet
This assignment is about designing a travel pamphlet of the city that we are currently residing at. When I first got the assignment brief, I was thrilled. I have never designed a travel pamphlet before, I was all pumped up for this. However, as I started the first few pages, I instantly regretted. Though we live in a society where information are easy to access, yet still I could not figure out so many things about my area, Bangsar.
Here's the showcase of my work :)
What am I supposed to do ?
Our requirements for the project :
- in depth research of our hometown
- state out the tangible and intangible elements
- 8 - 12 pages pamphlet
- PDF of our pamphlet and a video of the pamphlet
- Dateline : Week 14 (Friday 23/6)
Progress
Gathering Info about my hometown
I chose Bangsar - the place where I lived since born. I initially was confused about the zoning, architecture style, activities and culture here. Bangsar is a small area famous for its nightlife and a place where most celebrities and ministers meet. It is considered a very ' modern city' area compared to Malacca or Penang, where they have many culture and significant features like historical buildings.

Like I mentioned, Bangsar is a small area, and I encountered quite some issues searching for its architectural report or architectural style on the internet. Most of the informations were through my observations and confirmations from various websites.

Process
I usually like to plan out all my pages first before I start my draftings, so it will make me work more efficiently. Most of the time, the process of planning is fast. Because of the lack of information and also myself being unclear of the objective, it consumes quite a lot of time to plan it out. Once I have figured it out, everything goes on smoothly. Planning, Drafting, Colouring, Compiling and Video...

Drafts
I first made drafts for each of the pages - arrangements, overall layout, style and informations. I was going for a Korean cartoon style for my whole pamphlet. I also got many inspirations from the sample pamphlets in Pinterest. After all the drafts, I sent it to Ms Reene to check if my info were correct just to be on the safe side.

Finalizing
After confirming all the informations and layout with Ms Reene, I then continued to do the colouring and some finishing touchups. Once I am done with the colouring, I had some help from my mother to stick all these papers together. Surprisingly, it took quite some time to stick all these together.Overall, I am really satisfied with my work.
Reflection
I have been living in Bangsar for 17 years of my life, yet I failed to know so many things about Bangsar. Through this assignment, I have gained so much knowledge about the area where I lived in as well as their culture and activities available. This is truly a wonderful experience to get to know my place better!
This assignment is pretty rushed for me as I only had 2 weeks to complete it . At first, I felt really stressed out for this as I didn't understand the requirements from the brief even after many explanations from the lecturer and my friends. So, I decided to move on with the ones that I could understand first. After having more references from the seniors work and the internet, I slowly understood the concept. Then, it sped up my work progress.
I did not understand the whole concept of this assignment at first, but through communications and discussions with friends, family and lecturer (Ms Reene), I can finally understand the assignment brief and their requirements.
